Description:

In October, 2024, Governor Cox announced the creation of a Fentanyl Task Force to address the continuing negative impact of illicit fentanyl in Utah. A Statewide focus to this threat is needed because while much of the US is showing a decrease, approximately 17% of drug overdose deaths, with fentanyl accounting for most of these, the State of Utah is not. In fact, Utah fatal overdose rates are on the increase, at approximately 5%. The Governor’s Fentanyl Task Force aims to address this by identifying and resolving critical gaps in prevention and treatment, creating more awareness throughout Utah of the risks associated with illicit fentanyl consumption, and combating the spread of illicit fentanyl by drug trafficking organizations operating throughout the State and region. As stated by the Governor, “I think we can all agree that this state that we love, the communities in which we live, will be much better off as we educate and eradicate the effects of fentanyl and while we keep Utah safe.” This webinar will provide a current update on the efforts of the Fentanyl Task Force from a public safety, public health and community based perspective.
