Join the Utah League of Cities and Towns (ULCT) for our 2023/2024 Elected Official Essentials Trainings. These training courses offer a crash course on the basics you need to know before you take office in January or as a refresher for those currently in office.

1. Newly Elected Official Crash Course

The Newly Elected Official Crash Course covers the fundamentals you need to know before you go to City Hall. While all are welcome, this training will be specifically focused on newly elected officials.

The Newly Elected Official Crash Course qualifies for the mandatory OPMA training that all elected officials in Utah must undergo. There are two opportunities to take advantage of this training: 

In-Person Training

Online Training

Registration for the Newly Elected Official Crash Course is $60.00 for the in-person training on December 9th and $45.00 for the online training on December 16th. Registration fee includes a welcome packet for participants and a copy of the newest edition of Powers and Duties: The Handbook for Utah Municipal Officials. Online participants will have their materials mailed to the address they submit on the registration form. Online participants are encouraged to register by December 6th to ensure they receive their welcome packet prior to the training.

3. State Legislative Engagement for Local Officials

Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 12:00-1:00 p.m.

This webinar will cover the basics of the 45-Day General Session at the Utah State Legislature including how to find your legislators, how a bill becomes a law, how to track a bill, and more.

4. Legislative Preview: #CitiesWork on Capitol Hill

Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. 

This webinar will cover the policy topics we expect to see during the legislative session, how to connect with ULCT throughout the session, and best practices to communicate with your legislators.  

5. Regional Summits

ULCT will be collaborating with the Associations of Local Governments (AOGs) to host regional summits statewide during the spring and summer of 2024. This will provide supplemental training on best practices and policy topics from the legislative session and networking opportunities. Dates and locations TBA.
